Scam Type: Bogus Offer

Trending: November 2011

Why it’s a Scam:

Clicking the wall post link takes you to the  following page:

4_southwest_main

As usual, here you are asked to Share the message with your friends and enter a comment on the page. After entering the comment, the following marketing gimmick, landing page loads:

4_southwest_main2

If you read the fine print, you have to complete user surveys and a total 6 reward offers. We have never known of one person to actually receive the item being offered in promotions like this. They appear to be fraudulent marketing gimmicks!

**Note – Scams like this often use multiple domains, so you may see a variation in the landing pages and scam messages.

How to Deal with the Scam:

If you did make the mistake of sharing the scam link, then you are now spamming your friends with the very same message. Clean-up your newsfeed and profile to remove references to the scam. (click the “x” in the top right hand corner of the post).

If you completed any of the surveys, then be on heightened alert for identity theft attempts, and be prepared for a deluge of junk mail.
