Nintendo made an operating loss of ¥18.4 billion ($187 million) on sales of ¥115 billion ($1.17 billion) this quarter as Wii U sales continued to lag. The company sold 300,000 Wii U consoles between July and September, an 87.5 percent improvement on the previous quarter; sales were buoyed by a price cut and Legend of Zelda bundle, but Nintendo notes that it is still losing money on the hardware. Net profit for the half-year period was a slim ¥600 million ($6 million).
