Smartphone security with a personal touch

Cybersecurity researchers from the Georgia Institute of Technology have developed a new security system that can identify individual smartphone or tablet owners simply by how they touch and swipe the screen. Called LatentGesture, it builds up a touch profile or signature of the user and then uses that information to constantly check if the person using a device is tapping and swiping it in the same way. Just like your fingerprint, everyone is unique when they use a touchscreen, said Polo Chau, a Georgia Tech College of Computing assistant professor who led the study. Whats more, because the system can recognize and store several signatures, LatentGesture could be a great way of setting up a device for family use.
