In the face of malware, Android has a very good defense mechanism — the app permissions system. This system defines a set of actions an app is allowed (or not allowed) to perform.

By default, all Android apps work in a sandbox — an isolated environment. If they want to access, edit, or delete data outside the sandbox, they need the system’s permission to do so.
