“3 Free Games from NVIDIA” Phish

Every so often, makers of graphics cards will bundle them with games or offer a downloadable version upon purchase of specific makes. Steam occasionally offers up free games to people who already own a brand of card, so the rewards for having decent kit in your gaming rig can often mean considerably more than not just having your game look like something off an Atari 2600.

Of course, scammers will take advantage of this and “3 free games from NVIDIA” has been around for a couple of years now. Here’s one, located at nvidiagifts(dot)tt(dot)lt:

NVIDIA GIVES FREE GIFTS!
Nvidia Gives you 3 STEAM GAMES FOR FREE!
You need only login with your steam accounts email and select 3 any games.
Good gaming with NVIDIA!

End-users entering there login details into the box will find themselves taken to the following URL:

steampowered(dot)com/succsesfull(dot)html

While Steampowered(dot)com is the real Steam URL, the horrible misspelling of the word “successful” should be your clue that this is a trick by the phisher to send you to the real site but make it look like a random error has occurred.

No games for you!

At time of writing, IE and Firefox miss this one but Chrome flags it as a phish:

It’s also been snagged on PhishTank, so one would hope it’ll be dealt with eventually. Be wary of free game / graphics card tie-ins…always go to the source, whether it be NVIDIA, ATI, Steam or someone else. “Free games” sounds great; “lost my account”, not so much.
