Apple releases Mac OS X version 10.6.8 with many security fixes

Apple has released Mac OS X 10.6.8 for Snow Leopard (Security Update 2011-004). Among many improvements it also addresses many security vulnerabilities in the operating system.

The 10.6.8 release also protects against the latest Mac Defender malware and its known variants, including “Mac Security”, “Mac Protector” and “MacGuard”. This problem was initially addressed in the Security Update 2011-003 from June 1st.

Mac OS X users can upgrade to the latest release via the built-in Software Update function.
