You would think that if there had been a widespread scam on Facebook two months ago, that it wouldn’t be capable of spreading using identical wording now, wouldn’t you?

Sadly, it seems the answer is “no”.

Messages about a supposedly sleazy sex video of pop songstress Rihanna are being spread on Facebook right now, complete with a lurid hardcore photo.

(I’ve fuzzed out the various parts of the screenshot below to protect the innocent)

OMG I just hate RIHANNA after watching this video

you will lost your all respect for RIHANNA after watching this

Sound familiar? It should do. After all, we saw a near identical attack in March.

Visitors are duped into sharing the links with their Facebook friends (believing that they will then be able to watch the x-rated video). In this way, the scam can spread quickly across the network.

The point of fast-spreading scams like this is usually to earn commission for the people who initially set them up – generally by driving traffic to online surveys.

If you were fooled into participating in this scam remove the message from your newsfeed, and delete any messages you may have inadvertently shared with your friends. That way at least you are no longer spreading it with your online chums. You can also report the link as spam – hopefully if enough people do it, Facebook will begin to stop the scam from spreading.
