Description:
Main responsibilites for this role are:

. Contributing to the maintenance of Symantec Hosted Services SLAs by maintaining and developing systems and tools to meet those objectives.

. Producing design specifications as required from functional specifications, identifying all sub tasks, estimating their duration and feeding back to the Technical Architect, Technical Lead and Project Manager.

. Participating in planning, providing specific estimates and justification for own areas of work.

. Completing all tasks as defined and prioritised in the project plan, ensuring all code is written, tested and integrated with the rest of the project code base and version control system.

. Responsible for working with the System Test Engineers throughout the project lifecycle, Writing detailed instructions on installation & rollback procedures

. Investigating bug reports, fixing defects and re-releasing the fixed software to System Test Engineers.

. Writing, monitoring and revising all installation, configuration and support documentation and ensuring that this is up to date at all times.

. Provide post release support in all instances, including training where necessary to internal customers, and occasionally with external customers.


Required skills:
. Educated to degree level or equivalent in a computer related subject, and have experience in an IT/programming role.

. Or have proven experience in an IT/programming role.

. Experience in C++.

. Experience of Perl.

. Development level experience of Linux or UNIX.

. Experience of working in a quality driven engineering process.

Desired skills:
. Knowledge of SMTP and RFC2821.

. Knowledge of email, particularly MIME and RFC2822.

. Knowledge of HTTP and RFC2616.

. Experience of development on Windows.

. Knowledge of HTML, XML, WSDL and SOAP web technologies.

. Experience of System Administration on Linux/Unix.

. Working knowledge of internet protocols such as FTP, TCP/IP and POP3.

. Knowledge of an assembly level language or intermediate code.

. Knowledge of internet systems, particularly DNS and SSH.

. Knowledge of RPM creation and installation.

. Knowledge of at least one version control system.

. Experience of working within an internet security or service delivery environment.

. Experience of developing zero-downtime internet-scale systems.
