Distil Networks, an Arlington, Virginia-based provider of bot detection and mitigation solutions, announced that it has raised $10 million in Series A funding.

Founded in 2011, Distil Networks helps organizations ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies protect their websites and offers a cloud-based bot detection and mitigation system that incorporates bot-fingerprint database with technology that identifies and tracks non-human web traffic in real-time.

According to the company, the funding will be used to support its ongoing efforts to eliminate bad bots and fuel growth as the company opens new offices in Raleigh, North Carolina and San Francisco, California.

The company says that it has fingerprinted and catalogued more than 2.2 billion bad bots.

“As we continue to make progress against the bad bot invasion, we know the fight is far from over,” said Rami Essaid, CEO, Co-founder, Distil Networks. “This round of funding will allow us to not only be proactive in combatting new threats, but will allow us to grow the company and further expand upon our technology to make the web a safer place.”

Foundry Group and Techstars’ Bullet Time Ventures led the latest round, joined by ff Venture Capital, IDEA Fund Partners and Militello Capital. As part of the deal, Ryan McIntyre of Foundry Group and Bullet Time Ventures’ David Cohen will be joining Distil Networks’ Board of Directors.
