Hackers are believed to target the UK’s energy sector and some industrial control systems have likely been compromised, according to a recent report from UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, part of UK’s intelligence agency GCHQ. Because the activity was reported in other sectors, such as public water and other engineering-based areas, this was seen as part of a wide-spread attack.

A UK business would have to spend £1.1m on average to recover from a breach – more than the global average of £1m. An NTT Security study of 1,350 non-IT business decision makers across 11 countries, 200 of which are from the UK, also reveals that respondents anticipate it would take, on average, almost three months (80 days) to recover from an attack.
