When domain name system services supplier Dyn got hit with a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack last October, waves of traffic overwhelmed the company’s network and disrupted access to the internet for large swathes of the United States and Europe. The Dyn perpetrators had successfully orchestrated one of the biggest-ever DDoS attacks.

A majority of the top 1 million websites earn an “F” letter grade when it comes to adopting defensive security technology that protect visitors from XSS vulnerabilities, man-in-the-middle attacks, and cookie hijacking. The failing grades come from a comprehensive analysis published this week by the Mozilla Foundation using its Mozilla Observatory tool.

Cyber attacks are happening in every industry and organization size. Just read through your Twitter feed or turn on the news on any given day and you’ll see what I mean. It’s obvious that these attacks are increasing in number and sophistication, and I think we can all agree that this trend will continue.
