The creator of Minecraft, Markus Notch Persson, just broke some big news on Twitter: Warner Bros. has plans to make a feature film based on the game. Deadline has more details, reporting that the studio has acquired the film rights from developer Mojang AB with The Lego Movie producer Roy Lee overseeing the project. The financial details of the arrangement werent disclosed, but the move makes sense for Warner Bros., which has seen The Lego Movie do incredibly well at the box office (we thought it was rather spectacular ourselves). Of course, a popular property isnt enough to guarantee success on its own — plenty of ill-fated reboots and game adaptations have proven that — but Minecraft provides a clean slate from a story perspective that will give the right filmmakers plenty of room to tell whatever tale they choose to. Someone is trying leak the fact that were working with Warner Brothers on a potential Minecraft Movie.
