Amazon acquires Comixology, the world’s most popular digital comics platform

Amazon announced on Thursday that it will acquire Comixology, the most popular digital comic platform on the market. Comixology shot up the download charts when it first hit the iPad, bringing comic books from all of the top publishers to screens around the world. In 2011 and 2012, Comixology ranked as one of the ten top grossing apps on the App Store. According to VP David Naggar, Amazon is looking forward to “investing in the business, growing the team, and together, bringing comics and graphic novels to even more readers.” Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but the Comixology team will remain in its New York office once the deal has been finalized in the second quarter of 2014.
