Apple’s new hobby: CarPlay finally brings iOS to the car

Apple on Monday at the Geneva International Motor Show launched CarPlay, the company’s iPhone-related foray into the automotive industry. Previously known as iOS in the Car, the new CarPlay functionality is already available in select Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo models, with several other carmakers planning to offer it to their customers in the future, including BMW Group, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai Motor Company, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia Motors, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan Motor Company, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota Motor Corp. With the Apple TV having graduated from a “hobby” to a billion-dollar product in 2013, it was time for Apple to look elsewhere for a pet project. But with all the deals Apple already has lined up,
