Google has sent out invitations for an exciting new announcement, scheduled to take place on September 15 in India. Although Google is being coy about what to expect at the event, first reported by NDTV, the timing and the location suggest that it will be for the unveiling of the first truly affordable Android One smartphones developed for emerging markets.  Android One is Googles plan to put good smartphones in the hands of the next 1 billion consumers and is essentially a hardware template that manufacturers can follow in order to make affordable phones — i.e., roughly $100 — that arent overwhelmed by Android software and offer a satisfying user experience. To help keep costs down, Google is sharing its formidable resources with manufacturers that sign up to Android One and will also be working with local network providers to create affordable data plans and with local developers to support the creation of locally relevant apps.
