The comedic film, called Hail Caesar, centers on a Hollywood fixer named Eddie Mannix, according to Deadline, which broke the news this week. As a private eye during the height of the studio system in Hollywood — which saw stars locked up under multi-year contracts with movie studios like MGM — fixers like the fictional Mannix served to solve problems like scandalous affairs from getting into the public spotlight. Many private eyes played fast and loose with the law to get their jobs done.
