Google’s plan to take over your car takes shape

Google is looking to get a big head start in the upcoming battle with Apple in the realm of car-based software. Google announced on Monday that it has joined with several car manufacturers to cofound the Open Automotive Alliance, a new industry group that is working to bring Android to more cars and that is a clear reference to the Open Handset Alliance that helped make Android into the world’s No. 1 mobile operating system. In addition to Google, the new group includes car manufacturers Audi, GM, Honda and Hyundai as well as chipmaker NVIDIA, so it looks like the alliance already has a very strong base of companies right out the gate.
