Long before there were laws, long before there was beer, there was marijuana — a drug that had fallen out of legal favor in America completely by the 1930s. It’s taking America much longer to make the same realization about marijuana. In Amsterdam in 1988, High Times magazine staged the first-ever Cannabis Cup, a sort of combined trade show and Olympics for stoners. In 2010, the first-ever Medical Cannabis Cup came to San Francisco under the auspices of California’s Proposition 215 and Senate Bill 420.
