How Roger Christian helped build ‘Star Wars’ out of scrap

Roger Christian, art director for the first Star Wars movie and the man behind Black Angel, might not have had a lavish budget but he did have ingenuity to spare. The Academy Award winner used airplane scrap in the Millennium Falcon, adapted real guns for blasters, and turned a Graflex flashgun handle into the first lightsaber. In an interview with Esquire, the 70-year old discusses his history with George Lucas, how he constructed some of Star Wars most iconic sets and props, and the future of the series.
