Meet ‘Instagram Direct,’ A New Way To Privately Send Photos And Texts

In response to the emergence of messaging apps like WhatsApp, Kik and Snapchat that are increasingly grabbing the attention of harried smartphone owners, Instagram introduced a new way to send photos and text messages privately to friends on Thursday. Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom, who sold his app to Facebook last year, introduced the new messaging service, called Instagram Direct, at an event in New York. This story is developing.
