Microsoft on Wednesday announced a new Universal Windows Apps initiative, which will allow developers to create apps that will work across all form factors, including computers, laptops and smartphones. The new API set for developers will facility the simplified creation of apps and games that work across Microsoft’s three main platforms — Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1. The move could turn out to be hugely important as Microsoft has previously struggled in its efforts to draw top developers over to its new desktop platform and to its mobile platforms. Watch live as Microsoft discusses Universal Windows Apps and other new products unveiled at its Build 2014 keynote.
