Phones Equipped With a “Kill Switch” Could Soon Be Mandated in California

That so-called “kill switch” equipped to smartphones so they would be quickly disabled they’re stolen might become a reality in California. State legislators are revealing today a measure that would require manufactures who sell in the state to have the cellphones installed with the option by Jan. 1, 2015. The plan is a joint effort between State Sen. Mark Leno and S.F. District Attorney George Gascon, reports the Associated Press. For the past several months, Mr. Gascon has been pretty adamant in demanding phone carriers inventing this magic button and if all goes well, his dreams will finally come true.
