Fans of Winamp, the multimedia player that will be discontinued by its parent company AOL on December 20, have started collecting signatures to ensure the player will live on. The SaveWinamp petition requests that AOL do everything it can to continue support for the software or — alternatively — move to an open source development model for the player so that its fans can continue to develop it. The online petition explains that Winamp is the most versatile media player on earth. If AOL allows it to go open source it WILL live on forever and be in the hands of people who love it and use it every day.
