The latest data coming in from NASA and the ESA suggests that comet ISON, which has been documented in recent days on its beautiful journey toward the sun, may be no longer. ISONs destruction was not unexpected: it was on track to travel just a few hundred thousand miles from our hot, glowing orb, exposing it to extreme temperatures that could quite easily cause it to burn up. The latest photos from the European Space Agencys Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), positioned to have an uninterrupted view of the sun, show a comet trail — just not a comet itself. Astronomer Phil Plait says hes ready to call it, but at least we got some amazing video footage out of it while it lasted.
