It may seem melodramatic to say that the future of the Internet in the United States was put in jeopardy earlier this year when a U.S. Appeals court killed net neutrality. Unfortunately, it is not melodramatic at all. Net neutrality rules had been put in place to ensure that Internet service providers and other related entities treat all data as equal without giving preferential treatment to large companies that might otherwise be able to pay extra for faster connections. Since January when the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia struck down net neutrality laws that had been put in place in 2010, we have already seen things begin to change for the worse.
