The new Apple Watch will have a scratch-resistant sapphire display that can detect force

Apple just announced that its new Watch will sport a high-quality sapphire Retina display that serves as a touchscreen and can detect force. The new screen technology is a departure from Apples reliance on Cornings Gorilla Glass, and the new material is also expected to make the wearable tougher and more scratch-resistant. Of course, the biggest concern with switching to sapphire glass is cracking. It stands to reason that Apple invested a lot of money to prevent that from happening, but it remains to be seen how well it holds up after long-term use.
