Windows Phone is limping its way toward relevance

It’s safe to say that Windows Phone hasn’t taken off the way that Microsoft hoped it would. However, the latest numbers from IDC show that Windows Phone is definitely climbing in the smartphone market, albeit at a very slow pace. In all, IDC projects that Microsoft and its manufacturing partners will ship 43.3 million Windows Phone smartphones this year, which would give Microsoft a 3.5% share of the overall market. IDC also sees Windows Phone continuing to grow for the next four years, although its overall market share is projected to stand at just 6.4% in 2018 despite posting an impressive compound annual growth rate of 28.1% between now and then.
