FireEye, a provider of threat protection solutions, announced this week that it has added a new Android protection component to its Mobile Threat Prevention (MTP) platform.
Scheduled to be available by the end of June 2014, the new FireEye Mobile Security App will help organizations protect Android devices through its mobile malware detection and prevention capabilities and cloud-based app threat assessment solution.
Rather than relying on signatures, FireEye Mobile Threat Prevention executes apps within the FireEye Multi-Vector Virtual Execution (MVX) engine to protect mobile devices against compromise, the Milpitas, California-based company said.
According to F-Secure’s Q1 2014 Mobile Threat Report, more than 99 percent of new mobile threats discovered by the security firm in the first quarter of 2014 targeted Android users, indicating that Android is a clear target for attackers looking to compromise mobile devices.
FireEye’s enhanced platform provides visibility into the mobile threats currently on their networks and devices through a single dashboard and Android app which performs signature-less analysis of user apps in the cloud while leaving sensitive employee information on-premise.
Additionally, through the new app and management tools, the platform can now identify unknown mobile threats in real time using behavioral analysis, block malicious apps from running, and alert users and administrators of suspicious apps.
FireEye’s enhanced Mobile Threat Prevention platform capabilities now include:
• Access to FireEye Dynamic Threat Intelligence — Evaluate apps against an database of more than 2 million pre-analyzed apps from Google Play and third-party app stores.
• Simplified app threat management — Granular visibility into compromised devices as well as multiple enforcement options, including blocking malicious apps from running.
• A combination of semantic, dynamic, and behavioral analysis — Comprehensive, on-demand threat assessments for newly launched or custom-built apps.
