The Fifth Element isnt just a movie about the future. Its a movie about New York, and what happens when the worlds largest city cant grow outwards anymore and has to grow up. Roads arent just roads, theyre mid-air capillaries where cars movie like fish from point A to point B. As fanciful as traveling by flying car may seem, walking is still in fashion, and lengthy skybridges connect one building to another. Our dreams of building similar skybridges are mostly dead — but a few still exist peppered across New York City. …
