In mid-May, Foursquare decided to split itself in two. The second half is the forthcoming Foursquare 8.0, a complete redesign of the company’s existing app that has until now been kept secret. In the words of CEO Dennis Crowley, the new Foursquare is the app he always wanted to build — an exploration app unhindered by the check-ins that previously held center stage. Foursquare’s new wordmark is bold and grown-up instead of a playful doodle.
