One of the first hacks to ever get widespread public attention occurred on the night of April 27, 1986.
Millions of HBO subscribers in the United States were watching the movie The Falcon and the Snowman when their screens suddenly displayed this message:
“Captain Midnight” hacked the HBO signal and complained to the world about the ridiculous prescription price of $12.95. How could someone do that, the world asked?
