Another key focus is maximizing GPU utilization; expensive GPU nodes often operate at a fraction of their capacity due to poor scheduling, and improved orchestration can yield substantial returns. Beyond these tactical FinOps measures, CIOs must embrace broader strategic imperatives to maintain control. IBM’s Baker advises adopting hybrid cloud architectures to avoid vendor lock-in, which preserves negotiating power and flexibility. He also urges organizations to right-size their technology investments, resisting the default use of the largest and most expensive models in favor of smaller, fine-tuned, or compressed models that are more than sufficient for specific tasks.
