According to a recent analysis by the Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC), while there has been a decrease in overall identity crime reports, reports of impersonation scams have grown significantly, now constituting 34% of all scams. Businesses and financial institutions are particularly vulnerable, with 51% of impersonations targeting companies and 21% aimed at financial entities. These statistics underscore both the evolving threat landscape and the sophisticated methods employed by cybercriminals who leverage AI to generate convincing fake websites and orchestrate extensive phishing campaigns.
